Following long-standing complaints from residents, Jagatballabhpur police launched a late-night crackdown on illegal activities in the area on Tuesday. Locals had alleged that liquor was being sold openly and gambling operations were running through computers in certain pockets.
Acting on the inputs, police simultaneously raided Badgachhia, Jagatballabhpur, and Fatikgachhi. Nine people were arrested for illegal liquor trade, and about 500 liters of illicit liquor were seized on the spot. In a separate raid at Jagatballabhpur bus stand, police caught a man red-handed while operating a gambling setup through computers. A computer and cash were recovered from the scene.
Police officials stated that such special operations will continue to curb illegal activities and maintain law and order in the region. The crackdown has been welcomed by residents, who expressed hope that the problem will now be brought under control.
